Year: 2012 - 2018
In October of 2018, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The cancer would not have been found except for my regularly scheduled mammogram. The lump was so close to the chest wall that I didn’t feel it myself. Because of this mammogram, the cancer was diagnosed early enough for me to only need a lumpectomy instead of a full mastectomy. The oncologist told me that radiation was needed, and while chemotherapy was a choice, it wasn't considered required. However, taking chemotherapy would lower the chances of cancer appearing in other parts of the body by about 14%. I chose to do chemotherapy because I wanted my children to know that I fought this battle with all the weapons possible and that we should never give up the fight.
