AN ACTIVE-AND HISTORIC-BOARD MEETING
The ISRI 2006 annual convention, held in April in Las Vegas, was historic for its record attendance of 4,285 as well as its election of new national officers for the 2006-2008 term.

Jerry Simms
The ISRI board of directors unanimously elected Frank Cozzi of Cozzi Enter-prises Inc. (Burr Ridge, Ill.) as chair, George Adams of Adams Steel (Anaheim, Calif.) as chair-elect, and John Sacco of Sierra International Machinery LLC (Bakersfield, Calif.) as vice chair. The board also elected Jerry Simms of Atlas Metal & Iron Corp. (Denver) as secretary/treasurer.
In its two meetings held during the ISRI convention, the board also took several other actions, including
- passage of voluntary Electronics Recycling Operating Practices
- approval of the safe paper shipping guide developed jointly by ISRI and the American Forest & Paper Association;
- the addition of three new nonferrous scrap specifications and modification of two others. The new specifications are Elmo (mixed electric motors), Shelmo (shredded electric motors, also called shredder pickings or meatballs), and Tally (all-aluminum radiators). The modifications applied to Zorba (mixed nonferrous shredder scrap) and Honey (yellow brass scrap). These changes took effect May 3 and will be included in the 2006 edition of ISRI's Scrap Specifications Circular. To review the specifications online, visit www.isri.org and click on "Commodities & Specs."
- amendments to the association's policy manual regarding exhibitions at chapter meetings to prohibit large equipment displays and limit the size of exhibit spaces to 10-foot booths, or multiples thereof; and
- approval to allocate $120,000 to hire a transportation safety professional and fund that person's job-related travel.
